From your point of view, which storage applications will become extremely important for the energy system?
Hans van der Spek: A wide variety of applications: balancing, frequency control, primary reserve and long-term bulk storage.
How do you evaluate the general conditions for storage in your country? Hans van der Spek: Poor – fair but slowly improving.
Which adjustments would you suggest in order to promote the use of storage devices? Hans van der Spek: With Energy Storage NL we have launched our National Action Plan for Energy Storage last fall. This was picked up by MP’s and government and some barriers for storage are currently being removed in regulations.
What do you find so fascinating about energy storage? Hans van der Spek: The multiple functions / applications that can be provide with one storage system. It’s really the myriapod of the energy system.
